Which G Shock Size Fits You?

This article is only the opinion of the writer to ease people in choosing the right size of watch for them. The problem often occur that the size of the watch doesn't match the wrist of the user which will make them feel uncomfortable of not looking good in them.

Here is some G Shock for you according to the size.

Small

This is the smallest line of G Shock Family. Actually, the smallest ones are the Baby G, since they are meant to be small version of G Shock. But, let's not discuss about it and focus on G Shock.
The model which is included in this Small size are the 56 series and 69 series for the digital. For Ana-Digi, the series are included AW 591, G 306, and others.
The 56 series here means the DW 5600, G 5600, GW 5000, etc. The GX 56 is not included here since the size of that G Shock is consider as Xtra Large.

Medium

This size included the range of Mudman G 9000, Gulfman 9010, GD 200, G 7700, and many more. These type of G Shock is universally fit any size of our wrist since these are not small and also not big. These size of G Shock is famous among user who want to have a watch which fits their daily use.

Large

This size are majority famous among people in America or Europe market since their wrist is rather big which mean they need a bigger G Shock. This size included G Shock series 100, which included GA 100, GD 100, GDF 100, GA 101, and many other variants or series 100. The biggest size, which can be considered as Xtra Large might be the King of G, which is G 56 and also Frogman Series. Also don't forget about the G 1400, the gravity defier.

G Shock 30th Anniversary Series: Collector's Item

In its 30th birthday, G Shock announce that they made special edition watch with a limited number. Basically, these watch are the standard watch sold to the public with "some extras'. The most significant  thing which differs it from basic watch is the domination of red color used. The next significant changes is on the naming of the series. In this series, the Series name is added 30 in the last number. So the series would be 5630, 6930, 9330, and 8230.

The Models

The models offer in this limited edition are some of the most popular G-Shock styles, the classic 5600 mens watch, and prominent 6900 mens watch, mud-resistant G9300 MUDMAN and two versions of the iconic FROGMAN dive watch. From the classic series, the G Shock DW5630 and DW6930 offer the basic model that most of us already know. The other newer series of Mudman and Frogman also offer the same model as it is in the non 30th edition.

The Feature

Since all of those watch are taken from already exist model, no additional functionality added. The basic DW5630 and DW6930 offer basic model feature. No Auto-Light or Tough Solar feature. While in the newer version of Mudman and Frogman, they have already fitted with modern technology like diver ready for Frogman or Adventure gear on Mudman. Which one is best? It is all the same since we bought it because of its appearance.

Special Case

When you bought one, the first thing you'll notice is the case. It is a nice combination of Black, Red, and silver. This case came with text 30 written in the top and 30th G Shock Anniversary written in the side. When we are opening the case and look at the watch, we can see that the watch itself is dominated by red color. When we see in the back case, there will be text about G Shock Anniversary, a small but good details.

Price

All of this niceness and great looking things comes with a pricey tag. But it is not a big deal if you are looking for a G Shock which will shock anyone who see it.

Let's discuss about the feature G Shock has, Auto Electro-Luminescent. This is a feature where user can automatically turn the light of the watch on without touching any button. User is simply lean the display facing user's face until it reach about 45'. 

GD100 Light On.

Not all G Shock have this feature, Some vintage model and full analog watch doesn't have this. The digital series which doesn't support A.EL is DW6900 series, DW5600 series, GDF100, etc. While the Analog Digital which does not support it is like G306. To turn on this feature, user is simply just hold Light button for 3 seconds. After the feature is already ON, user can Check it immediately by facing the watch into the user. 

Non Auto E.L. DW5600MS

 If you look for vintage watch but already support A.EL, you can buy G5600 or G6900. Those models have already support A.EL and also Solar Battery. For Analog Digital, user can choose the model from GA100, GA150, etc.

Master of G: G Shock G 9100 Gulfman

Now it's turn for G Shock which specifically made for Coast or Sea Side activity. This Master of G comes comes with a  powerful features and functions into a tough rest-resistant configuration. All external metal parts, including screws, back cover, buckle, and even button shafts are made of titanium alloy for total protection, even in seawater environments.
The band is secured to the case by milled titanium alloy screws, while the form of the forged titanium alloy back provides outstanding impact resistance.

Design

This G Shock is rather small if we compare it with other G Shock from Master of G family, like Mudman or Riseman. This make the watch look handy and can be used by most of the people whose wrist is small. The small design does not make this particular G Shock becomes weak. It still carries the toughness that G Shock always offer. Like I told earlier in the opening, it is still as tough as other g Shock. Here are some other color variations.

The most important feature in this particular series is the Rust resist ability which is acquired by the metal structure which is being changed into Titanium, a particle which withstand rust from sea water. That is why it is being called Gulfman, a watch to be used in the Gulf and sea side activity. Another feature which can't be found in an ordinary G Shock is the Moon Phase and Sea Tide. This feature can be used to see the Moon data and how high the tide and any given moment.  Other feature which is bolted to this watch is same as other standard g Shock, like Auto EL, Alarm, World Time, etc. The only major draw back is only the missing of Tough Solar feature.

As member of Master of G family, of course it is tough. As I said earlier, although it is relatively small, but the structure can withstand any shock and water up to 20 Bar. the special toughness is on the ability to withstand rust. You can freely use this watch to swim in the beach or just play around salty water without any fear of this watch being rusty or broken. 

Alternative

GR9100GY as an alternative

This watch is indeed made specially for sea side use, you can use it to swim, but not recommended for diving. For diving purpose, you better off with Frogman, a master of swimming watch. if you want this particular model with the addition of Tough Solar ability, you can choose G Shock GR 9110 GY. 

Analog G Shock Edition: Gravity Defier

Now we will review about Analog Series of G Shock, the G 1200 Gravity Defier. This certain analog watch is made to withstand a high gravitation force. It is usually wear by Air Force pilot whose are always work with high G Power.

The design of this analog watch is simple. It use three hands dial for second, minute, and hour. Although for a first glance it's look simple, if we look closer, we could see that there are a lot of information displayed. This simple and easy-to-read design is specifically aim for extreme user who need quick information. So, when the user want to know what time is it, the could only look for a second and they could get information without any disturbance from watch interface itself.

This Gravity Defier series is filled with the feature like any other G Shock. It has Water Resistance of 20 Bar, Shock Resist, Alarm, Solar powered battery, Saving mode, and many other techie from G Shock Family. What is missing from this G Shock is just Light or Luminescent which is not really important since its Needle will glow in the dark. The band which is used in this version is using Metal Band unlike normal G Shock which using Resin Band. This details make this watch looks classy and can be used for Formal activity without looking like a Lost Adventurer by using G Shock.

Toughness

As we can see from the Feature above, this watch can withstand any torturing from out door use. It also have a tremendous ability to withstand gravitational Force like when doing aerial sport like sky diving, or if you work as a Pilot on a Fighter Jet. Although it is called Gravity Defier which we can assume that its natural habitat is in the Air, it still can withstand water pressure like any other G Shock. This watch can still used normally in 20 Bar pressure like any other Digital G Shock.

Above picture is color variation of G1200BD, and bellow picture is the alternative, a pricey alternative, the G1400 Series.

The alternative for this series is the G Shock GW-A1000 or G 1400 which look like the same with the feature which almost alike. If you want to buy a watch which look like G 1200 but plus digital feature, you can get G 1250 BD.

G Shock G 9000 Overview

This G 9000 Series has a simple design with a thick rubber body. This G Shock is specifically design for Hard Core out door use. As it stated in its name, Mudman, Mud is its natural habitat. You may use it in out door activity which is involving Mud or Water without any fear of this watch being damaged or malfunction because of getting wet.

The Feature in this series is quite similar to any standard G Shock. It has Auto Light, Alarm, World Time, Etc. A feature missing for an outdoor G Shock is Rechargeable Battery, which is not a set back for this watch since it can still last for 2 years in normal use. Main feature which is not the digital technology, is the feature for out door use. The Body is made of thick rubber, as I mentioned earlier, which make this G Shock is Shock Proof and the back of it is covered by rubber to maximize its water and mud resistance.

Toughness

"Master of G" Toughness

As a part of "Master of G" family, toughness is a must. You can use this watch to play in the mud without any fear, since there is the place where this watch should live. Even in the toughness test that is done by Casio UK and being uploaded in YouTube, the G Shock used to demonstrate some of the stress test is this G 9000.

Variation

G 9000 Color Variation

Unlike other G Shock which come with variation model which has Tough Solar feature, this G Shock only provide color variation. Other variation for this series is the Military Series, the G 9000 MS. This MS series is likely to be the most favorite variation for Mudman since its color suits the Outdoor activity.

Alternative

G 9300 as Costly Alternative

I think there is no alternative for this series, but if you want a more modern Mudman, Casio is now launching a new Mudman, the G 9300. It has a rather larger size but thinner. It has more tech in it, like Compass, Thermometer, Moon Phase, Tough Solar Battery, etc. The only reason you wouldn't chose G 9300 than G 9000 because of its price.

 

DW 6900 Review

DW 6900, Another Classic Beauty

Another classic G Shock is 6900 series. it has wide range from the original ones until the latest one, G6900KG. What will be reviewed here is the original DW6900.

Shape

Overview of 6900 series.

It has a basic form of 6900 family, with its trademark "the three devil's eyes". In this basic design, the size is not too big. A standard size which can be used by everyone, even people with small wrist, like myself. The trademark "Three Devil's Eyes" in this series make it different from other range of G Shock. The Functionality of these "Eyes" will be reviewed later.

Feature

DW 6900 Details

These basic model of 6900 series has lots of common feature we found in other G Shocks. The distinctive feature we found is "Three Devil's Eyes", which in this model, it only shows the Second and Minute counter. In other 6900 series, like G 6900, these three eyes are having a function as the display to show the feature like DST, A.EL, Battery, etc.

Toughness

Small but tough DW 6900

As I myself is the user of this G Shock, I can say that this watch is really tough. It survive from any environment as I use it daily. I often use this watch to swim, hike, or any outdoor activities. The worst things nature could do to it is scratch the Strap and the body.

Alternative

G 6900 as an alternative

If you look for the newer version of 6900 series, you can look for G6900. A same size and shape, but more modern feature. If you choose G 6900, you can get Tough Solar Battery, Battery Save Mode, Auto Light, and many other functions, which all of these does not coming in DW 6900.
